Installation Overview

Not all SYNLawn Golf turf requires sand fill, but some may decide they would like to add sand to their green for a specific characteristic. This should be discussed with a SYNLawn Golf representative. Sand filling the turf is a critical part of the installation process. Due to the fact that most SYNLawn Golf’s nylon turfs are extremely dense, a large amount of fill material is not necessary.

Filling the turf is a slow and tedious process. Take your time. This is a step that can make all the difference in the performance of your green. (Before you start sand-filling your green, it is a good idea to cover your cups so that they do not fill up with sand-fill. This task of stuffing the cup(s) is easier than removing sand from it.) Once you have selected the proper fill material for your application…fill a normal lawn material spreader (available at your local home improvement center, or neighbor!) and begin to spread the material evenly over the surface of the turf. You want to put a light dusting of your fill material on then brush it in. Repeating the process till you have your desired performance characteristics you are looking for. You do not want to over fill with top dressing. You can adjust the amount of the material and the performance you desire by filling and testing the roll of the ball as you go.

All polypropylene and some nylon turfs require a "break in" period of up to three to four weeks. This is due to the composition of the fibers, which are stiffer by design. This allows the fibers time to soften up through wear and exposure. Rolling the green with a lawn roller can accelerate this. This is a process that will still require some time and patience. You will undoubtedly have certain areas that are slightly "fuller" than others … they can be adjusted by sweeping the area to a more uniform consistency.
